I wish I knew... by Cache' - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

When I became a freshman I honestly did not know what to expect. The seniors back then pretty frightened me considering how tall and big they were, so I was too scared to ask for advice. Also, back when I was an upcoming freshman shadowing was not mandatory and I did not know anything about open house. I am so happy that you guys have a chance to talk with us and ask us for advice because we will tell you the honest to God truth and let you know that this is real life. I wish someone was there to tell me not to screw around or slack off during my freshman year. I am going to let you know that this year (freshman year) is your easiest year and you need to take advantage of it. You should be nice and respectful to every teacher you have because when it comes down to senior year you will need them for letters of recommendations. Those are used for colleges, scholarships, and jobs. Also, listen to Ms. Hart when you become a junior and senior because she knows what she is talking about. When you need help with something, please ask for it. I regret not getting help in the past and letting my pride get in the way of that. As a high school student I suggest you get into the habit of utilizing an agenda. My agenda for senior year gives me life. I make sure everything I need to do for the day, week, or month is in my planner to make sure that I am organized. Omg I can’t believe I did not say this first, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!! That is so important and I wish I was told that because I use to procrastinate all the time. I would say, ‘oh I have a week to this, oh I have about two days.’ Then I would end up doing that assignment the night before and it just made me mad that I did not do it ahead of time. I would also like to say that your jobs that CWSP assign you are so important. I am not even talking about tuition wise and all that other stuff relating to school. I am talking about when it comes to working outside of school and being able to earn your money. I have been at the same job since a freshmen and my relationship with my manager is so important to me. She knows how much I love One Direction and decided to get me tickets to see them this summer. Just develop relationships even if you do not like your job. Relationships and having connections with business people is so important. I know a girl that graduated and she used to work at my job and she still continues to come there over breaks to get money in her pocket. I also know someone that graduated from Cristo Rey and decided to come back become a full time employee.

Whoever is reading this please learn from my mistakes and make the best of your year? Enjoy your high school years, but at the same time make sure you stay on top of your game.
