High School Advise by Brooke - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
High school is a major part in every persons life. It is a time to explore options and make friends. It is a time where classes get harder, students get rowdier, and true friends are discovered. One thing that will make the high school experience ten times easier, is to just be yourself. By being yourself, you will discover that the challenging classes become easier, the students are less aggressive, and the people who are meant to be your friend will be discovered.
Classes in high school can be a real challenge. Precalc. Physics. AP classes. All are a major step up from the easy classes in middle school. Once in these difficult classes, students tend to put on a mask to hide themselves. The smart students feel like they'll get made fun of for exceeding in them, so they cover their intelligence up. Their grades start to drop and their confidence goes with it. High school is not actually an active participant in that stereotype. Students don't make fun of others for being smart. In fact, it's quite the opposite. If you just be yourself, others will accept you and the whole high school experience will be much easier if you don't have to spend your time and energy hiding who you really are.
Once again, the stereotypical high school tends to have bullies running rampage throughout the halls, but in reality, that is not true. Most people in high school get along quite well. Students believe that being themselves will cause bullying to be directed towards them, but it is actually quite opposite. Yes, there are still bullies in high school, but their attention is directed upon the fakes. They bully the people who aren't being who they are. By being your wonderful self, bullying will be less of a problem in high school.
Lastly, by being yourself, you will be able to discover who your true friends are and who are the fakes. Most students will like others because they act like them, but if that is not who you really are, you are not really being liked like you should. By acting as a different person everyday, you gain the chance to lose the person you really are. The people who accept you and your crazy self are the people who you can trust with anything and who will always be there for you through thick and thin. People who like you for you make wonderful friends. With friends comes many benefits like a stress reliever and happiness, which in turn, makes the high school experience much easier.
Incoming freshman should know that they must always be themselves, no matter what the circumstance. By being themselves, high school will be easier, less aggressive, and friendlier.
