Just a dream away by Brook - July 2020 Scholarship Essay

My dream classroom would have many different aspects all combined into one. The different aspects of the room would provide needs for students such as a comfort feeling and an increase learning in the classroom. I would also change the aspects of normal classrooms by changing the layout of the room, the style of learning in the classroom, and the learning tools in the room. I think my dream classroom would help many students and teachers just by changing what’s in the room. Do you think changing things in the classroom could strongly impact a student's learning? Read and experience my dream classroom and see if you still feel the same.

With the layout of the room I picture it being the size of a bedroom in a huge castle with dark wooden walls and a tall ceiling. On the wall on the right, wooden book shelves from the floor to the ceiling filled with books. Each book is part of the subject you're learning in that classroom so you can borrow one if you have an interest in what you're learning or need help with the topic. I imagine a wooden hand carved door as the main door on the right wall as well an extra door made of glass on the back wall that leads out of the building incase of a fire. On the back wall is a giant, black as coal, stone countertop with beautiful splashes of white, like fireworks. The class could use this to do projects, labs (depending on the class), or if a student needs to catch up on work because they missed a day they can work back there. To the left of the room would be a bulletproof glass wall with a garden view. I think that this would actually help a lot of students with learning because kids will feel less confined, will help with eyesight, and will make the class more enjoyable therefore remembering more about it. It will make the class feel less confined because it shows a big open garden which will help with anxiety and stress for some students. The window will help with eyesight because in schools especially nowadays we have to look at computer screens and small texts a lot which strains your eyes and could damage them. With the garden view you can look out that distance to give your eyes a break. The garden can also make class more enjoyable, for example if a science class the garden could help with many labs and projects and if you're in English people can go out to the garden and read the assigned book which might make the book more enjoyable or memorable if the students are in an enjoyable place. The desks in the room would be wooden with 2 people at each one. The chairs would have back support to help kids and teachers backs since we have to sit for 6 hours straight. The teacher's desk would be at the front and be designed to match their personalities. That's how I would design them.
The learning style that would be in my dream classroom would be mostly consistent so it would be easier to get used to. It would mostly be book work or notes during the majority of the week but on Fridays you would have a project or some kind of physical activity. Some examples for History: a document, project, or a socratic seminar, Science: labs, project, or research, English: a video project or poster project, Math: experiment or poster project, ect. I believe by having a different activity on Fridays helps students who have to learn by doing something physical and gives students something during the week to look forward to. I think this learning style will lead students to success in the classroom.

I would have special tools to help students in the classroom. The tool that I think would most definitely help students is a hologram projector. Just imagine being a student and your teacher shuts the blinds for the room to be dark but instead of taking notes off the projector your teacher turns on the hologram projector that brings anything from George Washington talking to Hamilton about the revolution to the Civil war battle grounds virtually in front of you as if your living in that moment. Image how excited and more interested in what you're learning if your class had this tool for you as a student. The hologram projector could even be used by students to present a hologram project. This would teach students on programming which may be very helpful in further jobs as technology rises higher and higher. That's a special tool that I dream could be in a classroom for students.

My dream classroom has many different aspects all combined into one. The layout of the room would help keep students safe, help them learn/grow, and give a calming tone. The learning aspect would be designed to give opportunities for every student even with different learning styles so they all can succeed. Using the hologram projector as a learning tool in the classroom would give excitement and interest in the subject being learned. It may also introduce career options in technology for students who are interested. That's what my dream classroom would look like and how it would help students like me.
