"Be Yourself in Life" by Brittney - August 2013 Scholarship Essay

I graduated from high school this year and I will be attending Leeward Community College in the Spring of 2014. My junior year of high school, I was in this health class. My teacher was talking to us about how we, as teenagers, should stay abstinent in our years of high school because these 4 years are our important years. I found this interesting because she was being real with us. Most teachers I had just told us not to have sex because it was bad. But this teacher made it seem like she actually cared about us having a great future. She gave us examples and explained to us how our lives would be if we had a child. Her example was teenage students in our school who had children and she also mentioned her past students who had children and how their own childhood was over because now, they have to raise a child. This lesson was the most interesting for me because in todays generation, people think that it is cool to have kids at this age, that it is cool to have sex. So her explaining and teaching this, opened all of our eyes to reality.
