Understanding my future by Brianna - December 2020 Scholarship Essay

It's hard to see the future from where we are, especially as teens who are barely getting started in life. I'm sure we all expected 2020 to be perfect with all the holidays being on weekends, or maybe we're seniors in high school but, I think that's what 2020 has taught us. Covid-19 is guiding us to be ready for changes that can happen at any second. These changes will exponentially affect our academic lives much more than we might be able to handle.
Although I might face more challenges than I have ever encountered before, it gives me more reasons to be academically and mentally prepared for 2021. A resolution that I'm aiming to achieve is to understand the material given to me better. Throughout quarantine, I have at times only learned to pass a class but, in 2021, comprehending and applying my knowledge that I have learned is crucial to my goal for the upcoming Fall and Spring semester. When students are only participating by completing the bare minimum for class, they hardly feel any motivation to work for better grades or achieve any other goals they have. This mindset is precisely the exact opposite of how I want to engage in school. Setting my goal to excel will enable me to apply what I have learned in the real world.
Fully understanding the course is the most critical part of my education, and I believe it is the key to my success. I'm aiming to understand every detail and not just understand to improve my grades, but to leave with answered questions of how and why something is. Retaining the information of the course is my education goal for 2021, and I whole-heartedly believe with self-motivation and perseverance that I can complete all of these academic goals.
