How Education Has Shaped Me by Bobby - December 2014 Scholarship Essay

I wouldn’t be an effective leader without the proper education. I am grateful to my school and educators that I have been able to pass all of my EOI tests, have an A in each in every one of my classes, and to also serve as an officer in three different school organizations. Due to my teachers and mentors, I serve as the V.P. of Community Services for FCCLA, the President of Student Council, and the President of the FFA.

I have been quite successful in my high school years, but that hasn’t always been the case.

When I attended elementary school, I struggled with my studies for years. Because I had a hard time focusing at school, I was never able to complete my schoolwork. Therefore, every day I spent hours on homework at home at night.

I was diagnosed with ADD. Afterwards my parents made arrangements for me to receive tutoring and study skills. For the longest time I refused to get help with my homework. I knew I was struggling but my friends never needed help with their work. As well, they always completed their work in class. I was afraid if I received tutoring, I would be labeled with a learning disability. In the end, I decided it was best I obtain the help I needed.

After that point, my grades improved, as well as my ability to study more effectively. My grades improved so much that over the years, I required less tutoring.
Education has shaped me into who I am today through the struggles I went through as a young boy in school to the high school senior today that maintains 3.2 GPA while being very active in several organizations as well as serving as serve as the V.P. of Community Services for FCCLA, the President of Student Council, and the President of the FFA.
