Education Of The Future by Bishoy - May 2020 Scholarship Essay

Education has served as the nourishment to young and old minds alike. Learning has so age requirement and is all-inclusive. As the years fly by, new innovations, modifications, and alterations have been made to the process by which we learn. Especially for modern-day education establishments. Whether it was governmental acts to make sure every student in the country is performing at a certain grade level, a renovation to curriculums taught, or introductions of new standardized tests. As a society, we are always looking for new ways to improve our education systems. I believe that the future of education holds many improvements and technological implementations. One thing is known for sure, we are not going to stop looking for new innovations to the education system anytime soon.

A major change I predict will occur to education within 50 years’ time, is a drastic alteration to the “education environment”. With major advancements in distance learning happening on a consistent basis, I believe the future could hold a classroom of students all working from home and outside of a school building. Take for instance education in today’s world. With the Covid-19 virus forcing students and teachers to work from home, we all have surprisingly integrated rather well. Just imagine how smooth a transition this process could be in the future. Another amazing aspect of distance learning is its ability to bring together students and teachers despite the distance. If distance-learning programs became a viable long term option for education, students around the world could connect with teachers to get the best education possible Conclusively, with apps and websites allowing for visual aid and monitored testing to occur, distance learning can only become more seamless and viable.

Another aspect of education I believe could develop within 50 years is a renovation of standardized tests. The argument of inaccurate intelligence depiction from standardized tests has been going on for long enough. I believe we could create and utilize different forms of testing that depict a student’s ability to critically think and exemplify their learning rather than relying on their memory. This could be done with hands-on activities and problems that would require creative thinking to be solved.

The final alteration to the education system I could see happen is a revamped learning curriculum. The new curriculum could rely on a more project-based style of learning that would promote true understanding. In addition, the curriculum could be altered to a individuals own unique learning style rather than a one size fits all approach. This revision would engage and encourage students to go out of their way to earn a deep understanding of the topics they are studying. The current learning methods put in place for students forces teachers to “teach by the test”. Instead of fully understanding the topics we learn, we are simply studying what will be on the exam in order to perform well. The new curriculum would eliminate this mindset as students would no longer need to study individual topics because they would actually UNDERSTAND the whole subject.

Thank you so much for this opportunity and for providing many young men and women an opportunity to achieve their dreams. Please allow me to depart with one of my favorite quotes, ‘Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today”. - Malcolm X
