In your opinion, what is the purpose of an education? by Betheny - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
Throughout anyone's lifetime, you usually hear; family members, friends, teachers, random people on the street, utter that school is important. That gaining an education further launches you into the clutches of success. Though, with struggling with daily bouts of homework and maintaining some semblance of lucidity during class, does finishing school and gaining a higher education seem probable? No.
Today, we campaign for a higher education, no matter who it is and no matter their situation, going to college is the "bigger picture", in the grand scheme of things. Except, the opposite of what being said is true.
Instead, the school of today solely focus on gaining a higher score for the school itself, instead of a sole student who may be struggling within the students population. Today, many of today's children become illiterate, especially with text speech being a popular form of communication among the youth. In classrooms, there's various teachers allow students to meet the minimum criteria to pass on. That is not the way to go.
The purpose of education is to fill the minds of young people of the history of the world, to show them the infinite amounts of numbers that equations can create, and to show them that reading is not only written words but various worlds within someones mind, painted my them. Getting an education should be about wanting to spark a students wonder, to have them engage with the curriculum that's being taught and ensuring that they FULLY grasp what has been taught, not just the remains of various lessons. An education is seeing that EVERYONE is equal, that those from the bottom of the barrel can be sky high. No matter the area, no matter the people, it should want more people to go, than leave.
Education is a strength that gains respect. It's the highest honor that anyone can achieve, that everyone should want to achieve.
Educations true purpose; moving us forward into a better tomorrow.
