Is it Worth it? by Ben - April 2021 Scholarship Essay
If I could go back in time to 5 years ago and give myself advice, my life would be much different than what it is today. My first thought is to tell my younger self to dump every last penny I had into bitcoin. Today, that money would be worth more than 100 times what it was worth in 2016. With this future knowledge, I could be set for life.
However, on a more serious note, I would have some pretty essential advice to give my younger self. I would tell myself to stay motivated and get things done in school. Not to get caught up in the little things or to push off the big things. There have been several times where I have gotten very discouraged as a student. However, as I pushed through school, I realized that everything would be okay. Whether I spend 1 hour or 10 hours on an assignment, life continues to move forward. I would tell myself that some things deserve more work than what I actually put in, and some assignments don’t deserve the amount of work I put in. Instead, I should take a step back and realize the importance of every task I am put up against.
School has always stressed me out an incredible amount. Always trying to aim for that perfect score or a top of the classimage. However, during highschool I’ve realized that sometimes it’s a lot better for my mental health to just slow down and take a breather. Not so much that I fall behind, but an assignment for a class shouldn’t dictate exactly how I feel. It’s just another thing I should do.
In conclusion, I’d want my younger self to know that focusing on myself is even more important than school. A grade is simply a number. It’s not worth the hours of frustration and stress to aim for the number 1. Take a breather, and go have some fun.
