Most Valuable Lesson by Bailee - November 2013 Scholarship Essay

I have grown up in a small southern town and with the same people all my life. Seeing these people every day became so ordinary that I took them for granted, especially my parents. When I was five or six my parents divorced, and I have lived with my mom since then. She has made sure my heart has never been in want, and has always done her hardest to provide the best for me she possibly can. So yes, I took her for granted probably more than anyone else. Until April 16, 2011, one day after my birthday, everything changed.

I was at my dad’s house when I found out. My dad and I hopped into the car and sped as fast as we possibly could. I looked out the window and all in one blur I saw my mom on the ground, the crumpled motorcycle, and her boyfriend being lifted into the ambulance. Her boyfriend past shortly after, yet my mom escaped with two broken arms and a broken foot. I fed and bathed her every day for four months after.

The biggest lesson I have learned in high school is to never take the people who mean the most to you for granted because in one blink of an eye they could be gone without any warning at all.
