Education Matters by Austin - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

Education has always had a purpose in society, but in this day and age, it has an increasing purpose. By 2020, sixty five percent of jobs will require a college education. While you will learn things that will help you towards your career, an education, specifically a college education, can teach you about life and other things that can’t be taught in a classroom. An example of this would be how to manage your money. It is no secret that most college kids have little or no money to spend. Therefore, college kids must learn to spend their money wisely and not spend it wastefully on lots of fast food or snacks such as McDonald’s and Twinkies.

However, more and more people in this day and age of society believe with the high cost of a college education, that college is a daunting expense because they say, “it does not guarantee you a job.” Well, this is what I would say to them. First, many colleges now a days want to make sure that their students are lined up with a job before they graduate. They pride themselves of this. A few examples of colleges that do this include North Carolina State University, Clemson University, and the University of Georgia. Then, I would tell them that people that get a college education get paid better than people who don’t. This isn’t a secret either. Therefore, if you want to make more money and be better off financially, then you must go to college.

The purpose of education is to provide people with the knowledge, skills and abilities to not only obtain a job but create a lifelong career. Education also gives you a better chance of financial security. One can never stop learning or growing through experiences and going to college is one of them.
