College Is Not For Everyone by Aspen - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

In my family, it has never been a question on whether I was going to college. It was always just assumed that I would go to college, and I have been okay with that because it is the only way to achieve my career goals. I hope to become a doctor, possibly a surgeon or anesthesiologist, and the only way I can accomplish that is by going to college and medical school. College is essential to my future plans and I believe it is very important for me and for anyone else who has career goals that require a college education. My college education will be beneficial to me because it will help me develop and learn the essential skills that I will need before I go to medical school. My undergraduate years will be the foundation of my knowledge, that I will continually expand upon in order to become a doctor. Although college has always been part of my plan, I know that many students may choose other paths to achieve their goals.

College is not necessary for a person to be successful. For many people, including myself, college is the most obvious path to achieving a decent career. However, people who do not choose to go to college have many other options to still pursue a career. They can choose to go to trade school instead or to work at a company that does not require their employees to have a college degree. These careers can lead to a person being just as successful as someone who went to college. It is also important that our society is well-rounded and has people in many different occupations. If everyone went to college, we would not be able to function, as we would not have enough people learning trades and other jobs that do not require a college education. I believe that college is very important for those who wish to pursue a career that requires a college degree, but it is not necessary for a person to be successful.
