My Nonprofit Organization by Ashley - February 2020 Scholarship Essay

If I were to create a nonprofit organization, I would create an organization that would benefit the lives of immigrant families living here in America. This organization would provide many services like english language lessons to both the children and the parents, it would provide educational, after school care for the children if the parents need the time to work or search for jobs and for the older children, this organization would provide school and college help. From tutoring in math to help filling out college applications or finding scholarships, my organization would make sure that each member of the family received the help that they needed to adjust and thrive in America and truly live out the “American dream.”
The reason that I would start this organization is because, as a Latina, I have lived in a community of immigrants for my whole life and have seen and lived through the struggles that many immigrants face. I have seen parents working day in and day out, sometimes working 2 or 3 jobs at a time in order to provide for their families. I have seen children struggle to learn english in order to understand their teachers. I have seen parents struggling to learn english and struggling to find jobs and I have also had friends come to me and vent that they want to go to college and they want to find scholarships and that they want to build a brighter future for themselves, but they have no idea where to start because they are first generation and don’t have the same support from their parents that many other high schoolers have. This is why I think that an organization like this could be useful, so that hopefully, these families who work so hard to make their lives better can have a little help along the way.
