The change no one knew they needed... by Aseel - September 2020 Scholarship Essay

My biggest goal this year is seeing my classmates as well as future generations of classes to walk across that graduation stage not only with a big smile on their faces, but I want them to be proud of how hard they worked. As a senior in high school, we are the big kids, the role models, and there is plenty of pressure as it is applying for college, scholarships all while keeping our grades up and achieving a great score on either the SAT or the ACT. That's where I enter the chat. Don't get me wrong I am just as stressed as anyone. However, in my mind, I know we will all make it to the stage for graduation, but I want us to make it there with ease. How could I possibly help every one of my classmates? I am building a blog where I can provide tips, quotes, and random thoughts to my peers, so they know they aren't alone. I am running to be president for my student government to hold either zoom or in-person study groups for different subjects to pass our tests and exams together. I am volunteering 12 hours of my time per week at my school to connect with the younger students and help the teachers in any way possible.
I have spoken to many of my friends, and believe it or not; we are all in the same struggle. When we get older and older, the problem is that we tend to forget to take time to take care of ourselves. In some cases, we don't know how to take care of ourselves. Mental health plays a huge role in whether we succeed or fail. No one should have to hide their feelings out of embarrassment. Our graduating class will grow closer and closer through my work over the next few months, and no one will have to suffer in silence. If anything talking about our mental health and seeking help when needed will be normalized. We will see fewer students struggling and more students achieving their own goals.
I have so much passion in my heart with little time. It seems like a lot, but I have a lot of support from all sides, my parents, friends, and teachers. The way I see it, if I work efficiently, manage my time well, and ask for help when I need it, not only will the class of 2021 be the unforgotten class, I will make sure the class of 2022, '23, '24 will know who to look up to when they are stuck in a rut.
