The Brilliance of Success by Aramis - February 2021 Scholarship Essay

Success, what does it mean? Success is being able to wake up from your alarm blaring at you in the early hours of the morning without being beckoned back to sleep. Success is being able to have achieved at least one goal that you have achieved at the end of the day, even if it was something as small as making your day before heading out of the house. It is biking to the top of a causeway and barely seeing the starting point. It’s still managing to feel satisfaction after trying something that ends up going awry. This is how I define my success, by seeing the brilliance in every decision and seizing that opportunity by acting upon it without second-guessing or letting a speck of doubt infiltrate the mindset that I have carefully forged and crafted through self-disciplinary behavior. Because the term of success is so fluid, there is no pinpoint answer to give the definition solidification other than to express it by working hard and thus being able to play hard.
Bringing this sharpened mentality to the educational environment is just as rewarding as it is to keep pushing those bike pedals in order to experience the breath-taking view on top of the peak. Success in college means that it brings me one step closer to being able to achieve my aspirations to become a psychologist and help others in need who require therapy, who require that drive to keep moving and not looking back, to develop their own mentality of someone who should rightfully feel successful. I find success when I see others succeeding, it’s not a singular object that only one person should be the sole keeper of, but rather a high that people should experience when they can say to themselves “I made it here and I did it.”
