Inspired to be Who I am Today by Araceli - October 2019 Scholarship Essay

I've been inspired by lots of people but one who motivated me was my seventh-grade math teacher. He would encourage me to find other ways of solving math problems because it is not my forte. There were a few times when I would give up on-myself only because my self-esteem was low. He would help me set goals for myself and if I completed my goals he said I should reward myself. For me, it was difficult because I was hard on myself, and I believed if I didn't succeed, I was a failure.
He cared about my well-being even though he was my teacher. He would explain how much we mattered. He would remind us that we are important and to have confidence within ourselves. For instance, he would explain in one sit down why one variable could share the same side with another variable. Or when there are two fraction forms separated from an equal sign he would compare math with different concepts. He would use shoes as an example. Having two different types of shoes on different spots of the room can be taken away to solve for one. Cancel out a variable by dividing it to both sides and solve the second variable. Having the chance of coming across a patient, understanding, and competent man who teaches me a skill has uplifted me to learn and comprehend the difference with who loves to teach compared to those who throw out information without purpose.
Someone who pushes you to surprise yourself believes in finding more than one way to solve an issue. Was exactly what my math teacher did. He had mastered various ways of solving different situations. Having a structure and organization helps a lot on growing personally to me. I've been pushed to know my limits and know what I am truly capable of.
I feel I have grown over time, because of my teacher's example who molded me the way that I am today. I have higher self-esteem in completing tasks. I've learned my limits. I compete, believe, and push myself.
