Deadlines by April - May 2014 Scholarship Essay
Throughout high school I have received countless pieces of advice from countless people. A good majority of the advice I received has varied so greatly. However the best piece of educational advice I have received would have been to make sure you are on top of all your deadlines. This was extremely important because it was so easy turn in things late. It helped me stay on track with a lot of my classes and not fall too far behind.
First off, I think deadlines are such a huge obstacle to almost every high school student. Being the fact that senior year is filled with easy classes, it seems easier to slack off. Such things for me were binder checks, accelerated reading, work sheets, and so many other minute assignments. Upper classmen always encouraged me to stay on top of my work. I always expected my teachers to let me turn in things late and I really relied on that. I realized that teachers don't make a set deadline for no reason at all.
I also realized like almost every high school student I always procrastinated and put things off until last minute. I thought I could pull of a whole project over night. Which I learned does not work. Procrastination probably got the best of me for a good chunk of high school. I would always get upset with my teachers for not letting me turn in my work late until I realized it was my responsibility. I finally got with the program and was on top of my deadlines. I started making sure my work was turned in on time. This piece of advice was probably what helped me stay on task the most throughout high school.
All in all. I think staying on top of deadlines was the most helpful piece of advice shared with me throughout high school. It helped me stay on top of my assignments. I was also able to not fall as far behind in a lot of my classes. I would strongly suggest staying on top of deadlines because there is a reason they are given. Throughout the rest of my high education I will cherish this piece of advice.
