A self-motivated leader by Angelina - December 2021 Scholarship Essay

Each day we encounter many individuals throughout our lives who we view as leaders. These leaders can be the ones we consider a friend, someone famous, or a family relative that inspires us to achieve our goals. We can compare them by the way they treat others or how they hold themselves accountable, but what truly describes a leader?
A leader can be best described as someone who is self- motivated. An individual who is self- motivated pushes their own determination to make their dreams become reality without needing the help from others. This shows the strong desire to continue to move forward, while spreading aspiration to others to encourage them. It brings hope for others and they feel inspired by one specific person. Leadership and being self- motivated also brings problem solving by learning how to overcome obstacles as you are working towards your goals whether it may be short term or long term.
When I first entered high school it had been difficult for me to adjust to playing soccer at a higher level with many talented young girls. I recall being inspired by one of my teammates who was a senior when I was a freshman. Ashley had been very self- motivated to become better as she also motivated the team through difficult times. Ashley believed that each individual had the potential to accomplish what they worked for. Her kind words and leadership brought much hope to the team. As a senior, I can truly say that Ashely motivated me through her hard work and dedication.
Today I am able to be self- motivated as Captain of the soccer team and Colonel of the Dance Team by motivating others each day to allow them to see the best version of themselves and accomplish my dream goal of dancing in college.
