Is College Important? by Anette - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

I believe that attending a college is important in many circumstances, but it also depends on the career path chosen to pursue. Attending a college does give a person a great advantage of success and holding higher positions in companies. And many jobs do require certain degrees and certain majors, but attending a college is not the only way to pursue someone's career path. An example of someone not going to college, yet they still learn and attain the requirements of their jobs, is an apprenticeship. An apprenticeship is when someone provides help to a skilled worker in order to learn the trade himself. In many apprenticeships, after a certain amount of time of working, companies usually provide a job opportunity there. An example of jobs that people can apply for apprenticeships could be construction working and engineering.
Like stated before, college does give a person a great advantage of success and holding higher positions in companies. And for those who do not attend college, they still have the opportunity to hold high positions in big name companies as well. There are certain jobs that they cannot have in general, like becoming a surgeon, but they are still able to be incredibly successful in life. Though it will be harder and take much more time to hold these positions, they are not restricted from having these job opportunities. So in conclusion, though attending a college would give a massive advantage in job opportunities and job success, people who do not attend college have almost all the same opportunities. But in general, yes, because of the knowledge and experience college gives you, it is very important for people to attend, depending on their career path choice.
