Repetition Equals A Stronger Brain by Andrew - January 2014 Scholarship Essay

There are many different study methods all that prove to be effective. Everybody is different in the way they learn though. Some people listen to music while others learn from visuals. I on the other hand feel I learn the best from flash cards or lists. The brain is kind of like a muscle; the more you test it the stronger it gets. It takes time and a lot of hard work.

When someone goes to work out in a gym they spend time at different weights and they do numerous repetitions and after each set take a short break and then start again. The more repetitions they do the stronger their muscles become. After working out muscles need time to rest and recover from the beating they take when lifting weights. When someone goes to work out they put in hard work and time in order to reach their goal of a stronger body.

When I study I make flash cards. I go over all of my flash cards twice to start then I take a short break. When I go back to studying I look over all of my flash cards again and this time I go over them three times. Every time I go over the material I increase the "intensity" or number of times because I am giving my brain more repetitions.

After I feel I have covered the material enough I take a nap. Science has proven that when one takes a nap the knowledge that has been taken in is stored in the brain and the longer one waits to take a nap the less they will remember. Similar to working out your muscles the brain needs to rest and recover. This method works well for me and has helped me maintain a 3.89 grade point average and be an elite student in my class as I rank in the top ten.
