Knowledge is power by Anamika - January 2021 Scholarship Essay

Everyone deserves education. My family always taught me that my education is the most powerful thing I will ever have. I was also taught that furthering my education will only help me later in life. Knowing how to read and write or think critically is a basic necessity that everyone needs and deserves, it's a power that not many people acknowledge. Most of our early education is free and we take that for granted. Knowing there are kids and even adults who don't have access to education, basic adding and subtracting skills, or knowing how to spell their own name, is a problem that should be heard and taken seriously. It's easy to be taken advantage of when you don't have the right education. That is why we spend years learning, so that when we open a new door in life you can take what you learned and apply it to build your future.
The one thing no one will ever be able to take away from you is your knowledge. Your power to problem solve, or critically analyze, or just the basic reading a book and writing what you heard. With that being said, you only learn as much as you want. The moment you stop taking your education seriously is the day you stop retaining information, information that could help you down the road. As important as education is, it's equally important that people know how much your education should really mean to you and what it can do for you. Just like education can help you when new doors are opened, what you learn can help you open new doors. Your creativity, interests and passions all come from things you've learned. Those help determine what you want to do with your life, long term or just as a hobby.
In today's society the last thing anyone should be worried about is their right to an education. Education should be accessible to everyone. Your education should be very important to you because without it do you think you would be where you are right now? Do you think the opportunities you've gotten in life so far would have still been given to you if you didn't have the knowledge and power you do right now? Sometimes we take everything we've learned in life for granted because it just comes so easily to us. For those that don't have it as easy, it's important that they have the opportunity and will power to learn it and retain it so that they can use it and gain success.
