Recycle your Knowledge by Analuisa - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

“No one can take you education from you”, these words were instilled in me at a very young age by my mother. She understood what people can accomplish with an education. In addition, she pushed me and sparked an intense introvert debate on the purpose of education. In my opinion the purposes of an education are immeasurable but for the purpose of this paper I will focus on two topics including community enhancements and contributing to a new generation of workers.

In searching for my place in the world I have formulated several opinions on the purpose of education. I have been extremely blessed by having wonderful role models and teachers that have shaped me to the person I have become. Contributing to the community entails riches beyond our pocket books and include life lessons money cant buy. It takes a community to raise a child. I feel I was a product of my community and I yearn to return generosity and guidance bestowed up on me. Obtaining a degree in nursing has allowed me to touch numerous of lives through my field of work.

In my opinion the another important purpose of education is to assist in the production of new generation workers.; handing down the torch so to speak. Even though the majority of our work forces are not certified teachers we must all teach what we know. When this is practiced the potential benefits are infinite. Working in a teaching hospital in the emergency room, has enriched my appreciation of the educators in the medical field. I witness every day the passion to create a new generation of health care providers. The ability to assist future doctors, nurses, and physical assistants will benefit future generations of patients and medical staff and our children.

Education has a different meaning to every person. The purpose of education in my life is giving back to my community and recycling my knowledge to next generation. This is just the beginning because we are all teachers of life. “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting on a fire,” Wiliam Butler Yeats.
