Clock Ticks to 12:00 AM: No More Procastination by Ana - December 2020 Scholarship Essay
Coming from a Mexican household, my parents have implied how important it is to multitask in order to accomplish tasks on time. Although this idea has been helpful throughout my high school experience, I believe having the ability to multi-task has set me at an academic disadvantage. One of my major problems as a student has been procrastinating. The reason I notice this is now a problem is because even though I have limited time from procrastinating, I still get things done on time. Procrastination is not my own desire, but I procrastinate in a way that leads me to leave school work for later because of family situations. I am guilty of procrastinating because sometimes I prefer to help with chores at home and look after animals over doing classwork. This guilt leads to anxiety as I get close to the 11:59 PM mark to submit my school assignments.
As a solution to my academic struggle, I plan to leave my motto of “everything is done better under pressure” in order for my conscience to be at peace and learn material within a decent amount of time. Therefore, when the clock ticks to 12:00 AM in January, I will dedicate one out of 12 green grapes (a Spanish tradition) to my 2021 New Year’s resolution of having time management. My action plan does not stop there, because I plan to arrange an agenda for all major events and daily routines. Just because I was born in Mexican household, I will not be fooled by the idea that multitasking will prevent me from procrastinating.
Every beginning of the following month for 2021, I see myself using vibrant colorful pens to motivate me so I can plan that month in advance and exercise the habit of time management. As follows, my anxiety will decrease and my retention levels of academic information will increase. My small actions will contribute to my desire of becoming the first dentist in my family and helping lower-income families in my community within the healthcare sector.
