Unpredictable and Indecisive Life by amber - June 2017 Scholarship Essay

In the 21st century there are plenty of stereotypical obstacles that we have to get through. People are obligated to live under certain rules, and if their way of living does not meet acceptable standards of conduct, then they are deemed as outcasts in society. People have no right to judge another because no person is better than another. In my opinion, life does not have to be this way. Life is unpredictable and indecisive. What I am about to share, is a perfect example of this. This is my short story on how I have unexpectedly changed from one career to another.
My past has been a preparation for my future. As a young child, I was fascinated with the life of a veterinarian. I loved the idea of being with animals daily and tending to their needs. At about eleven years old, I was able to shadow at Indian Creek Veterinary Hospital. During my “hands on” visit, I was able to clean a dog's teeth, watch a dog get spayed, and witness a cat get declawed. Shortly thereafter, I was stuck in a period of limbo because I had a gut feeling that I was destined for something more. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with my future. In time, however, I became attracted to the beautiful world of music.
Music has drawn my attention for quite some time now, and performances with flashy lights seem to call my name. I believe this passion did not develop as a whim. I think my commitment went unnoticed for a long period of time. I used to sing in church when I was a kid and I played the violin in grade school. In the 7th and 8th grade I nurtured my reflective energies and refrained from any musical things; but in 9th grade, I joined the RHS women's chorus and fell in love with music again. I found that I have a propensity to sing, and music compels me to do so. My college plans are to take music lessons to better my voice, pick up the violin again, and work hard to make it big in the entertainment industry.
As I look back, shadowing to be a veterinarian and being in the entertainment industry are two totally different educational pathways. Animals used to be my calling back in the day. I even believed my spirit animal was the wolf. I still believe this to be true simply because wolves are a powerful symbol of loyalty, intelligence and vigilance. Music is like a drug to me, and I have become addicted to it. It is a calling that I feel needs to be answered. Music gives me life and takes me away from the real world. Music has given me an increased drive to want to learn more about the specific area. I want to know any and everything about it and nothing can stop me from doing so. If people take nothing else from this, I want them to remember, that no matter what happens in life you need a recipe. That being hard work, dedication, and hope. You can never go wrong in life with these three in hand.
