Art Needs More Attention by Alyssa - November 2021 Scholarship Essay

The class that I think deserves more emphasis on in school would most definitely be art. Most of the time, art classes get pushed to the side when it comes to education. People are starting to focus more on online tools and technology than hands-on art. I believe people do not recognize the importance of maintaining efficient art classes in schools. It is significant that we keep our attention on art instruction, and not allow it to fade away.

Overall, art is very useful to everyone. It helps young children get more familiar with depth perception and improve fine motor skills as they grow. This includes activities like, painting, drawing, cutting, and tracing. These tasks are beneficial to doing necessary small everyday activities with your hands like buttoning a shirt or using a zipper. Art needs more mindfulness from educators, it can be seen and used as a break for many students from both inside and outside of the school day. Classes that involve artistic elements are essential for humans in order to learn more about expressing themselves and their feelings, in ways that other classes do not allow them to. Art classes sometimes will have group projects and that can help people of all ages learn how to take responsibility for their work. Art teaches you to learn from your mistakes and in many cases, gives you ideas on how to turn them into something better than you intended. Learning how to compromise your ideas with others as well as keeping specific deadlines in consideration from teachers helps you to gain knowledge to overcome challenges and to be good at problem-solving.

In the past years, art was able to help students from schools all over develop important, lifelong skills they can apply to almost any task. Sadly, institutions today are depriving students of the joy and potential skills they could get as a result of just simply putting more effort, thought, and consideration into the curriculum.
