Make My Dreams A Reality by Alycia - September 2020 Scholarship Essay

My goals this semester are to make my dreams a reality. I am currently attending a community college and I want to transfer to a four-year university, specifically the University of California- Davis to obtain a bachelor's degree. But this is easy said and done. It takes a lot of work. I have to get the best grades possible and be as involved as possible in school to better my chances of being accepted to UC Davis. But this will not happen without hard work. For me to make my dreams come true in need to channel my dreams and passion into hard work.
In high school, I discovered my passion for environmental science. Junior year I took Environmental Science, a new class being offered because I liked the teacher. But little did I know that I would discover what I wanted to pursue in college and as a career. Taking this course I learned so much about climate change and how there is so much more to it than melting ice caps and dying polar bears. I also helped start an environmental justice club. We organized a student walkout were students gave speeches about what they believed in. seeing all the young people that cared about our cause only made me more passionate.
My passion is to try to make my life more sustainable so that my carbon footprint is not so heavy on the planet. I am making changes in my habits that are for the better. But this is in my own daily life. I will channel this passion for the environment into an environmental science career. With a degree in environmental science, I will be able to study the environment and how it is impacted by humans and other forces. In college, I will be able to focus on and study everything I will need to know about the environment to rightly know how climate change is occurring. Once I obtained a bachelor's in environmental science I want to work with a group of environmental activists. I would also like to work for the city’s environmental department so I can help put my city towards a sustainable path. I am not sure what group I would like to work with to spark change but throughout college, I will be able to make connections. Once I have enough units I hope to be a student worker in the city department so I can build my career. While studying environmental science in college after I earn 12 units I can apply for a student job for the city. So college is one of the steps on my journey. First I found my passion. Now I am pursuing a degree and hopefully a student internship with the city. With these steps little by little, I am working towards the career of my dreams.
To meet my goal of making my dreams a reality I will have to work as hard as possible, To do this I will channel my passion for the environment onto my environmental science degree. My passion will be my driving force in achieving my dreams. My goal will be met with hard work and passion. I am the determining force in whether or not my dreams come true and if I achieve my goals.
