Worth It by Alison - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

Life is all about making choices. So naturally, everyone will make different choices than the person next to them. College is one of those choices. Pursuing a higher education is not something to take lightly as it can and will affect the rest of your life. The question is then, what is the right choice?

Everyone wants something different from their life. Everyone has different goals. While I want to be a physical therapist, my friend wants to be an electrician. Now, to become a physical therapist, I have to go through undergraduate and graduate school to get a degree so I can actually practice physical therapy. I am one hundred percent okay with that. In fact, I really want to go to college so I can pursue what I am passionate about.

My friend on the other hand, has wanted to be an electrician since she was in middle school. She does not have to go to college to be able to find a job as an electrician. She might have to go through a trade school or an apprenticeship, but no four-year college. That is what's important to her.

My friend and I's goals are very different, so we're going to make different choices in our lives. If she were answering this question, her answer would look very different than mine, but college is extremely important to me. It will help me to become who and what I want to be. I love to learn, and expanding my knowledge while pursuing my dream will make the tough days studying all worth it.
