My Goal by Alicia - July 2015 Scholarship Essay

Ever since I was a little girl, I have had the desire to help people. I used to dream of having a job that would allow me to help people every single day. While I was growing up I found one of my passions to be learning about science. In high school I applied to join a medical program called MedTrack. MedTrack is a program that helps students to explore and prepare for careers in healthcare by combining advanced coursework and hands-on experiences, while integrating the unique Franciscan approach. Padua Franciscan High School's unique program gave me the opportunity to explore a variety of different aspects and careers in health care. Through this program, I decided that I want to become a nurse. One goal that I hope to accomplish during college is to be able to learn the skills and knowledge needed not only help people, but to change a person's life.

In the fall, I will be attending the University of Cincinnati in the college of nursing. I hope not only to be able to learn the necessary knowledge and skills to become a nurse but to thrive in the university's program. I want to be able to not only look at a patient's specific medical issue and know how to effectively treat it but to look at them as a whole person. I hope to be able to improve his or her overall quality of life in all the different parts of a person's health. In college I hope to continue to utilize the many resources and skills I was able to attain through Padua's MedTrack program. For example I want to be able to utilize the research skills I was taught in Padua's Honors Advanced Science Seminar course, the experience I gained on the 40 hour clinical observation in Parma Hospital's emergency room that I was able to do, and the professionalism skills that I was taught. I believe that during college I will be able to contribute greatly to the nursing program. I want to be able to help people every day and give everything that I have to offer. I want to change a person's life.
