TRY by Alexandria - November 2013 Scholarship Essay

The most valuable lesson I learned in high school is to try hard and get your homework in on time. My first year of high school was rough because I just met my mom the summer before my freshman year and I moved in with her. I was in the foster care program before moving in with her and I was upset that she didn’t even try to get into contact with me all the years up till I was 14. So since I was so upset I couldn’t concentrate in school I wasn’t turning homework in like I was supposed to. My grade just went down down down.

When the end of the semester came around I got a few D’s and a couple F’s I realized that it was making my GPA drop. I had to make up credits over the summer just to be on the same track as my class. I just thought wow I can’t believe that I wasted 5 months taking a class that I failed and got nothing to show from it and I have to spend more time getting the credit made up.

I am now a senior this year going on to college next year. Although, I am caught up now with my class my GPA is still suffering from my freshman year and I regret it so much, so now I am trying to teach my younger siblings to try hard and turn in homework to keep grades up because they don’t want to regret the same decision four years down the road.
