I am proud by Alexandria - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
Proud- having proper self respect (Merriam-Webster's Dictionary). Going through school, most people would say that I have done a lot, but I have never viewed it that way. I just do what I think everyone does, but last year I realized that was not the case. I have always set goals to motivate me, and it paid off. A goal of mine has always been to get selected to attend Buckeye Girls’ State. The day that I got called into the room and told that I have officially been selected is one that will forever be apart of me. Having the opportunity to attend Buckeye Girls’ State is definitely one of my proudest times.
When the selection first began for Girls’ State, there were twenty girls, and at the time they were only able to send four. One thing about my class, is we are a high achieving class. I knew that every girl standing in that room deserved the chance to go. At the first meeting I looked at the other girls and realized that my chance of going was slim, even though it is something that I have wanted to do for such a long time. I have never viewed my grades or my involvement in school as something special, so I would have never guessed that other people would find it astonishing. After we all filled out our application, the women the the auxiliary were still not able to narrow it down and decided that we had to do interviews. I got even more nervous because I typically come off as shy. After about a month, I was called to the office one last time, and was told that I would be a part of Buckeye Girls’ State 2016, and I had a smile on my face that I could not hide. That day told me that my hard work is definitely paying off. After the hours of hard work, it was worth it because I knew that I would get to spend a week with girls just like me. I had the chance to be around the top girls in the class of 2017, and it was definitely special.
Attending Buckeye Girls’ State still makes me proud when someone mentions it. I am proud to say that I was a part of such a wonderful group of girls. Now not only am I proud to say that I attended Buckeye Girls’ State, I am also proud to say that I lived in the city of Montgomery in La Bounty County during Buckeye Girls State 2016.
