Achievement Award Influences Achievement in Life by Alexandra - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

My freshmen year, I was determined to make an impression on my teachers and the staff at my school. I did so by working hard and achieving my goals, and one of my specific goals was to achieve an award at our end of semester rally. These awards are given to students who exemplify our school’s LEADER values. The acronym stand for learning, enthusiasm, achievement, discipline, effective communication, and responsibility. At the end of the year, at our pride rally, I was chosen by my teachers who believed in my abilities and was honored with the achievement award.
Even though I have been awarded many achievements and honors throughout the three and a half years I’ve attended Thomas Nelson High School, this award is the one achievement I’m most proud of. This award helped my realize that my teachers and staff at school did recognize my accomplishments as a writer. My Geography teacher recommended I be nominated for the award because he saw my attention to detail in all writing pieces I composed. Although the reason I’m proud of this achievement is not because of the recognition I would receive in front of the entire school, but the knowledge that this award or any award which represents our school’s LEADER values. These awards are given to one student out of each house, our school structure which combines all four classes, who embodies one LEADER value.
At Thomas Nelson High School, the academic achievement of students are celebrated more than athletic accomplishments, does not mean they’re any less important. Everyday, students work to their best ability composing quality work to which our school applauds. I can not receive another LEADER award, since only one student can be honored per semester which means not every student can be awarded with such honor. Many students dream of receiving one of these awards but have no luck in being awarded. This award has allowed me to reach my full potential in school and pushed me to accomplish everything possible. Additionally, my parents were proud of me for realizing my passion for writing since that’s the reason I was recommended for the achievement award.
Earning this award has given me the opportunity to reach my full potential in writing and discovering my passion for the hobby. Since I was young, writing has always came easy to me, but this award allowed me to realize just how well I could write and how my writing has changed my life as I mature and grow into a new person. My writing skills are something that I can utilize for the rest of my life and my future in college.
