My Impact on Lebanon High School by Alex - November 2019 Scholarship Essay
I have supported individuals who have suffered the anguish of the ordeals life forces innocent people to endure. Several of the inhabitants of Lebanon High have had psychological distress from losing friends and family. I have helped some hurtle over these challenges by offering to befriend them when many others turned away. I had to sacrifice some of my own previous friendships to accomplish this in one particular case, for my previous friends were harassing the victim by mocking him with atrocious names. I chose to intervene despite the harm it caused to my own reputation among them. I was rewarded with a loyal, new friend by the end of the terrible event. Furthermore, I have participated in many volunteer opportunities while representing my school under the HOSA club. I have served in the Senior fair night, the special Olympics, Shine the Light event, and I volunteer at Avalon Hospice. Hospice has allowed me to represent my school through expressing altruism to those suffering under immense pain and alleviating some of the pain grasping at their souls. Many just need someone to talk to considering many have had their families abandon them. This is what a True Blue Devil is meant to do. In addition, I am a teacher's assistant and moderator. I ensure the class runs smoothly by preventing any forms of misconduct or cheating. I also tutor my fellow peers during and after class completely free of charge due to the fact I believe they had the potential in them from the start, but they required a bit of encouragement to fulfill the task ahead. I successfully raised a friends ACT score by a few points in order to receive the Tennessee Promise, so she is now able to attend Cumberland University next year without going into extreme debt. She now has the chance to complete her dreams of becoming a nurse. Once I achieve my goal of becoming a family Practitioner, I plan to donate money to my school as a way to thank all of my teachers and my counselor for supporting me every step of the way.
