Back to Highschool by Alaina - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

Sometimes I wonder how many people can say that they would like to go back to high school. I imagine it would not be very many people. I am in my third year of college and I can honestly say that some of the best memories I have are from attending high school and going back to serve as a college student. I have had the opportunity to serve in the school nurses office and as a teachers aid in the high school that I graduated from.

Over the past few years, I have found myself back in the hallways of the school I attended every Monday through Friday from 7:45am to 4pm for 8 years of my life. I have walked beside students who were struggling to write essays or solve math problems and students who had stomach aches and fevers. I have dedicated my service time to this place because it has made me into who I am. I studied under teachers who cared for my soul and wanted me to succeed in every way possible. I remember wondering if I would ever come back to see all the teachers and administrators that I passed by every day and I can thankfully say that giving back a little of my time to serve them each year has been one of the most fulfilling decisions I have made.
