The Great expense, AI, and Enverimont by Aidan - May 2020 Scholarship Essay
Unless something drastically changes and there is a political and an ideological shift the price of education will almost be unaffordable. Colleges are already so expensive they are almost not worth going to unless you are going into the sciences or a vary applied business degree. However, with the advancements in AI and machine learning, we will see a job loss that the world has never seen in recent history. AI won't just change and replace factory workers or fast food employees, they will be coming for office work. There are already AI that writes emails interpret simple information and even delegate tasks like a manager. The few places AI will not reach are in the sciences, math, biology, chemistry, engineering, and so on. These jobs will be essential to maintaining the new world. But there will be one last thing we will have to take into account and that's climate change. To solve the largest and most complex and difficult problem humanity has ever faced we will need science and sheer will power. So schooling will need to improve its training and teaching methods in the field of science and will need to be creating the next generation of innovators. However, I do believe that all this will be stumped by money. If schooling becomes so expensive and due to AI it will be very hard to find a good job to pay for it. We might be creating a cycle of poverty that won't be inescapable for so many.
Schools will be highly specific to certain areas of studies to compete with AI and deliver to solving the climate crises. But at the same time they will so expensive that they will hindering there own ability to solve the problems we will face, by not allowing everyone to attend.
