Education- The foundation to the future by Ahmad - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

According to oxfords dictionary, the definition of education is "the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction especially at a school or university". This is the basic understanding of education. But personally I view education as being more than just providing “systematic instruction”, I think education is meant to inspire and refine a students potential for a better future. Each level of education administers its own element to a child's development, elementary school exposes children to basic thinking. Middle school prepares you for high school, which advertises to students the many subjects that can be studied, in hopes to incite an interest. And finally college refines that interest so that students are fully qualified to find a career in their field of study.

Elementary school, the first basic school of teaching indulges in the curiosity of children while also providing them with a curriculum. Teaching basic math, writing skills, and other subjects provokes students to develop their thinking skills. While also giving information to the children that explain some of the many phenomenon of the world, such as the reason for why clouds produce rain. At this age children are malleable, they change constantly because they don't know who they are yet, and elementary school provides them the freedom to express themselves.

With the teachings of elementary school, middle school builds upon the fundamental knowledge that students have gained beforehand. From basic mathematics, they begin to learn algebra and geometry. And beyond just furthering students subject knowledge, middle schools also begin to instill the concept of responsibility. A trait that every adult must acknowledge and familiarize themselves with. During this stage, socially students begin to associate themselves with specific groups of people, in hopes to define themselves.

After middle school comes high school, the near final stage of a students educational journey. Here the options for study broadens, as the process of teaching narrows, my own high school has classes like physics, chemistry, earth science, psychology and American history. With each subject their comes with it an extensive curriculum thats meant to challenge those who participate, testing their competency in the subject. From this plethora of information your bound to find something that interest you and hopefully drive you to learn more. With my own experience with physics class and chemistry class, I have found myself interested in the field of mechanical engineer, a field I seek to study in college.

Lastly there comes the refinement of college teaching, the environment of college/university is filled with the sense of responsibility. At this point, you are exposed to all of life's opportunities, college itself provides you with immeasurable freedom, from you education to your social life, and your living conditions, all of which is in your hands. Though the main purpose of this institution is for academic education, it also plays a major role in teaching balance, organization and further responsibilities in life. Without these traits having a successful career after college will be nearly impossible.

Every person has the ability to make use of their education, from the start of elementary school to college, these educational institutions provide you with all the information you may desire. Without a proper education, any individual would be unlikely to have a prosperous future. A future is a priceless commodity and the same can be said for education.
