Ponyboy My Influence by Adriana - April 2014 Scholarship Essay
A character the has influenced me is from the book The Outsiders. His name Ponyboy. If you haven't read the book, the story is a out three brothers who lost their parents in a car accident. The oldest brother, Darry, is twenty. He quit school in order to support his younger brothers. Sodapop, the middle child, is the handsome and go-lucky guy. Then there's Ponyboy, the youngest of the three. Only fourteen. In the novel Ponyboy, his brothers, and their friends are called greasers because of their hair and where they live.
Ponyboy and me are a lot alike. During high school, I always felt little, unimportant, pushed aside, bossed around like his older brother Darry did in the story. Only I was bossed around by my mother. I knew I was never going to fit in with the people in my school. I felt like an outsider. After school Ponyboy fits in with the greasers because they share things in common. I felt the same. I fit in with my friends outside of school. We had things in common, lots of things. Ponyboy influenced me because after everything that has happened to him, he still managed to stay strong. Even though he ran away from a problem instead of owning up to it. I felt like doing the same but didn't because I was still in school and it was important for me to graduate. Ponyboy influenced me to keep going even when the situation gets rough.
