Education and Inspiration by Adrian - August 2014 Scholarship Essay

A freshman in high school, I was a part of the accelerated English program. The class was tough and unexpected, because it was my first challenging class. I was on the verge of failing. For our last project, we were put into groups for a special book report. We had to read a book, make a poster representing the book, and perform a small play recreating a scene from the book. I was put into the group of slackers, people who had slept through the whole class, and now, I will have to work with them. I relied on them to help me plan and finish the projects, but I ended up doing my part and that was the only thing that was graded. I ended up failing the class and taken out of the accelerated program. Through this failure, I was able to realize that I cannot just do my part. I need to help and inspire others to look towards their future.

Through this experience, I have done various leadership programs to help inspire others towards their career and a brighter future. In high school, I was a part of DECA, a club for business and a great program to learn how to speak to the public. I have also done a program called Teen Court. It is a program for teenagers, like me, representing other teenagers in a mock trial. We decide real punishment in order for them to learn from their mistakes. In college, I was a student ambassador. I helped inspire many students to become interested in going into college, especially into engineering. I hope to continue down this path of inspiring others and helping them following my path of education and inspiration.
