College: a Collage of Opinions by Abigail - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

Many believe that the decision to attend or not to attend to college determines one’s success in life. Success most definitely does not come automatically for college graduates, nor does it for anyone. I believe that life is what you make it; success is not a universal standard.
For me, going to college is important. I aspire to become a chemist, and a college education is necessary to fulfill my dream. I have dreamed of going to college and getting a degree in science for as long as I can remember. That is my dream. My goal. Others may dream of becoming a doctor or a mechanic or a stay at home mom – all of which are extremely admirable professions. In my opinion, one career is not more important than the other. I like to think of it this way: consider the function of the human body. The body is made of hundreds of different parts, each contributing to the health and successful operation of the body. Each role is important – each role has worth. This is the same in the world; we need every profession – dentists, grocery store clerks, sewer workers – for prosperous success.
A person’s attendance or lack thereof of college is irrelevant; their contribution to society, their happiness and their fulfillment are the only relevant aspects of success in my eyes. I am a firm believer that God has a special and unique purpose for everyone, and the individual fulfillment of our respective purposes is the ultimate definition of success.
For some, attending college is important; for others, the skills that they require to follow their dreams cannot be found in a college. Whether you decide to go to college or opt to enter the workforce or choose to join the military – the choice is yours. Follow your dreams, never give up. Find happiness in the journey, for there your success will be found.
