Junior Team Achievement Club by Aayan - September 2019 Scholarship Essay

If I had the opportunity to create a high school extracurricular activity, I would create a club called Junior Team Achievement (JTA). This program would have a student assemble a team and their goal is to create a business or organization that solves a certain problem and can make money at the same time. The purpose of this club is for the students to learn how to create a business idea, create a business model and effective teamworking and marketing skills. This can help students find their passion in the future, create new friends, and get business experience and money for themselves.

Getting into business and the process of creating and managing a business early on for students is beneficial. The student can create something that solves some kind of problem they have identified and are passionate about and can chase a solution and advertise it. Students will be interested in joining because they get to pursue their own passion which the club helps direct. Learning the fundamental ways of how a business works and is run is also helpful to students in the future when they enter the work force. Putting their experience with creating a business and running it also looks impressive on a resume which can help in applying to many jobs, internships, etc.

JTA requiring a team to make a business is essential to the purpose of what the club is trying to give to members. Teamwork is unavoidable in many circumstances in life, so learning how to work and pursue a collective goal together is a necessity. Putting this team rule in a business environment where multiple tasks need to be accomplished to function well, the team must organize themselves properly and divvy up tasks according to unique strengths in each of their members, emulating a real work environment. While working together, socializing and getting to know the people around you leads to new friends and more enjoyment.

The opportunity to make money while creating a business is really appealing to students in high school. I personally find it difficult to make time to get a job while being swamped with AP courses, standardized tests, family, and maintaining a social life along with volunteering and clubs. Many close friends of mine have the same problem of being too busy. By combining a club with an opportunity to make money, many students have an incentive to join. While doing this, they get real time experience on running a business they are interested in and meeting new people.

Junior Team Achievement club is a club that promotes creativity, social skills and knowledge about the real world and how major corporations that rule our economies today work. JTA gives students the opportunity to make money and get experience, economizing their already limited time, while giving them free reign over their own ideas. Students learn how to start a business idea by identifying a problem that they need to solve, how to create a business model using their product, and how to market said product. While doing this, students can enjoy making new friends and learning essential teamworking skills which will aid them in the future when they enter the workforce.
