Explanation:

The perimeter of a rectangle can be found using the formulat 2w + 2l = P.  In other words, twice the width plus twice the length equals the perimeter.

 

Start by finding the length of the given sides.  In this case, 8+8 = 16 meters.

 

Subtract this value from the perimeter of the rectangle:  28 - 16 = 12.

 

The two remaining sides, each X meters long, must add up to 12 meters.  Because opposite sides in a rectangle are the same length, X = 6 meters.
