The Lower Level Quantitative section of the ISEE is focused on your child’s reasoning skills, and abilities in creatively working through mathematical problems. Through this test, your child is given questions that require patterns, comparison, and other data-driven techniques to identify their reasoning capabilities. Through the Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools, you can identify and focus on the concepts that your child needs to study ahead of the ISEE Lower Level Quantitative. Particularly, the Question of the Day each day is based on specific math concepts; therefore, your child can use it to prepare for the exam in an entertaining, less stressful way. There are several ways to take advantage of the Question of the Day.
The daily question is chosen completely randomly, ensuring that your child has to recall a variety of different concepts and methods on a daily basis. This keeps information fresh in their mind, thus reducing boredom that can be brought about by studying the same way all the time. The mind learns better when it has a fun and engaging option, such as daily pop quizzes. Your child is timed, given a question, and the results offer a variety of details that can be used to improve their study technique. If your child can focus on the right subjects, they are able to actively work to improve the areas that they need to, rather than wasting valuable study time on the same concepts.
With the Question of the Day, your child can take advantage of the fact that each question comes from the ISEE Lower Level Quantitative practice tests, another Learning Tool that can be used with the daily questions. Each question provides details, including the concept the question is based on. The concepts your child will be tested on include data analysis, probability, equations, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, whole numbers, part numbers, fractions, distributive property, ratio, and proportions. These questions require the use of number manipulation, measurements, comparisons, and other mathematical techniques that your child learned during the past year and will be tested on in the ISEE Lower Level Quantitative section.
In addition, you are given information that tells you how many questions your child answered correctly and incorrectly, and their percentile among others that answered. You can use the information to decide what your child should study that day. Simply review their score, percentile, and time to decide if they need to study the concept of the day, or can move on to another concept that is challenging them. As your child progresses, you can see when they are prepared for in the ISEE Lower Level Quantitative section.
Your child can use the Question of the Day singularly, or along with other Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools. There are flashcards, which offer a way for your child to quickly refresh their memory on various concepts. These can be excellent review tools before a test. You can also test your child with the full-length timed practice tests, or the Learn by Concept interactive syllabus. All of these offer free ISEE Lower Level Quantitative section practice that your child can use from a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone for a quick, fun review.
