Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Colgate University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Biology. I minored in African-American Studies. Since graduating, I have become child care certified, tutored 3rd grade reading, taught 1st grade for two years and taught 3rd-4th grade special education (children with Autism) for a year. I truly enjoy teaching and seeing when students have an "ah ha " moment. I am a creative individual who likes coming up with fun games and activities that help students grasp the material in a new way. I love learning and imparting knowledge to others in unconventional ways. The subjects I tutor in are math, reading, science, history, writing, English/Language & Spanish. My favorite subject to tutor is Spanish because it is such a fun language and it is extremely beneficial to know!
In my teaching philosophy, there's no such thing as "I can't". There is only, "I can" and "I will try"! I encourage all of my students to try their best and believe in themselves! I also believe that consistency is key in education! I come from a long line of teachers. My father, mother, grandmother, aunt, uncle and numerous cousins are all teachers! I have learned both from experience and from my family legacy that being structured, firm and consistent with students in our daily schedule and expectations helps them to reach their fullest potential. I am also a firm believer in cultivating meaningful, supportive and encouraging relationships with my students/tutorees. Teachers/Tutors have a huge impact on their students lives. I do not take that impact lightly but I take it as a cherished opportunity to help my students shine academically and to facilitate molding them into the best student & the best person they can be!
