Certified Tutor

I was either going to become a doctor or a teacher. I graduated valedictorian of my high school with a solid foundation in chemistry and human biology, but when I developed a passion for philosophy and religious studies in college, I realized I needed to teach and write. I graduated with honors from Olivet Nazarene University with a B.A. in philosophy and religion and then earned a masters in religion and philosophy from Vanderbilt University and a doctoral degree in theology with certificates in gender studies and in teaching from Duke University Divinity School. While completing my graduate programs, I gained seven years of experience teaching college and graduate students in philosophy, ethics, writing, and various subjects in Christian religious studies (including New Testament Greek). I also worked as an academic tutor to help children and adolescents build concentration and memory skills so that they could succeed across subjects in school.

What I enjoy most about teaching and tutoring is empowering students of all ages and backgrounds to overcome their learning struggles so that they can not only thrive in their classes but also discover more about who they are and who they want to be in the process. I like to help each student that I tutor connect their studies with their interests and gifts so that they can have fun, gain confidence, and retain what they are learning. My tutoring specialties include English grammar, writing, philosophy, ethics, and social sciences as well as GRE Verbal test prep.

When I am not tutoring, I am jogging on trails, baking bread, writing, singing, or discussing Star Wars with my kids.
