The student and I worked on math tonight. We spent a lot of our time focusing on some of the questions where phrasing or steps made the problem more complicated than it needed to be. My focus was to show how to work sequentially to answer even the most imposing of questions. She has made leaps and bounds when it comes to the math section.

Today we primarily focused on reviewing the two math sections the student did between the two sections. After going through all of the problems he had trouble with, we focused on specific types of problems he had previously struggled with: inequalities and word problems. We developed strategies for approaching and solving these types of problems and were thus able to improve his ability to solve them. He had a good attitude towards the material, and we were able to make great progress. We decided to focus partially on the critical reading section for the next lesson, so the assignments I left with him were one section of math and one section of critical reading.

We then did some reading comprehension work. His accuracy in reading comprehension has improved drastically. While he sometimes gets swayed by distractor answer choices, he is getting much better at sticking to the text and not fading off. For this week, I have assigned him to outline and essay.
