We did review on supplemental part H for the student's test and worked on biochemistry. I asked her to go through her IB guide and mark sections she is completely baffled by and those she just needs more work on. Memorization of terms is what she needs to work on now.

Today we covered many topics including specific heat, molar heat, heat energy, first law of energy, enthalpy (heat of reaction), Hess' law, spontaneous reaction and dissolving salt in water. We also discussed alkali metal compounds, soluble compounds and metal oxides. We reviewed concepts from last week and added on this week for what she needs for exam. The student was definitely absorbing the material. Breaking down concepts and using examples is really helpful for her to understand what is happening and why we use each equation for a given circumstance.

We covered protein translation (lecture 10) and how proteins are folded then secreted. The student needed help with the translation figure 4.36 (slide 82), especially the A-P-E sites. We reviewed an animation on protein translation and also two websites with helpful pictures showing the process. Afterward, she was able to explain the translation process to me. We started using a shared Google Docs file to add helpful websites, pictures, and explanations of the process. I suggested she review the PowerPoint before the quiz. I really felt like she was understanding the material and increasing her confidence, even in explaining the material back to me.
