I decided that I wanted to teach after my time in the Air Force, I was an F-16 mechanic. I have to admit that when I was younger I was a B/C student through high school, but when I went to college during my military service I became a straight A student. Now I teach high schoolers at an alternative high school in Palm Beach, Florida. My students struggled with their learning at other schools so they came to us. Since I have been here we had one student pass the F.A.S.T. with a 5 (the highest score possible), 16 4's, and over 35 3's. All of those scores are passing score for the State of Florida. I'm proud of what I and my other teachers were able to accomplish over the last 2 years. Now it's time to talk about my experience and schooling (boring I know) I have been able to I am a Florida certified English 6-12 teacher with my K-12 reading endorsement and have been teaching reading and language arts for four years. I attended my Master of Education for Elementary Education through Nova Southeastern University and my Dyslexia certification through the University of Florida. My first two years of teaching I taught language arts and intensive reading for grade 6 through 12, and the last two years I have been teaching at an alternative high school as a reading coach. By the end of the school year, I will also be getting my Literacy Coach endorsement through the Department of Florida. I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed environment and tailored to the students needs.

Hobbies

One of my main interests is helping my students graduate. I help them find the roadmap to success and work with them after graduation to figure out their next steps such as getting a job or furthering their education... I also feed them snacks daily because a lot of my students have food insecurities. When it comes to my hobbies, I love reading (fantasy and sci-fi) and horseback riding. I ride dressage and hunter/jumper. Finally, I am learning how to bake bread (more fails than successes thus far), and other treats.
