I have long had a passion for studying ancient and medieval history that I want to share with my students. After graduating with BA in History from Harvard, I traveled to Ireland where I earned my MPhil in Medieval History at Trinity College Dublin. I recently completed my formal studies at the University of California, Riverside, where I earned my PhD in Ancient Mediterranean History. While I have spent considerable time in academia, I have not forgotten my roots on a farm in New Mexico, where I was raised. In my research I combine my love of the land with my professional interest in ancient history by analyzing ancient attitudes and uses of landscapes.

While I tutor a broad range of subjects across the humanities, I enjoy teaching history the most. When I teach history, my goal is to teach students to master the material through direct engagement with their sources. By actively engaging with historical material students not only master the material, but also develop critical thinking and communication skills that transcend the classroom. Encouraging active engagement with course material is characteristic of my teaching style regardless of the subject that I am teaching.

When I am not teaching or studying, I can be found enjoying outdoor activities and cooking.

Reading: I love reading about history, nature, and the Christian faith. Travel: I have spent approximately two of the past ten years living or traveling in Europe for my studies. I have lived in Ireland, Germany, England, and France and have traveled to several other countries, too. Cooking: I enjoy cooking beef from my family's farm and I make my own pasta from scratch. Outdoors: I love to take advantage of whatever outdoor activities my area offers, including: running, biking, kayaking, and hiking.
