Working one-on-one with students and guiding them through the complexities of math is my favorite part of being a teacher. I love the challenge a good math problem presents. It's like a puzzle just waiting for you to gather the pieces and fit it all together. I hope some of my passion and excitement for math rubs off on my students as we work together.
My calm, patient demeanor allows me to easily work with people from diverse backgrounds and abilities. I am practiced at continuously reflecting on my work, problem solving on the fly, adapting to the needs of the people I'm working with, and looking for ways to improve. My colleagues can testify that I communicate clearly and have the ability to explain ideas in different ways. These traits make me an effective tutor.
I graduated from University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point with a B.A. in Mathematics with teaching certification. I was immediately hired mid-school year by the high school where I completed my student teaching. In college, I minored in Music, another passion of mine. Piano and trumpet are my main instruments.
I've been a high school math teacher the last 7.5 years, primarily teaching Algebra 1 with a section of Algebra 2 each year as well. My dedication and effectiveness as a teacher has allowed me to obtain a lifetime teaching license in Wisconsin for Mathematics (Early Adolescence to Adolescence age groups).
Additionally, I've been working on completing a Master of Science in Mathematics. I will be completing my degree in August this year! While completing my course work, I've developed a strong interest in statistical programming and am now a certified specialist in SAS Base Programming.
I also enjoy reading, camping, running, biking, and cross country skiing. I'm a great listener and love to learn more about other people's interests as well. You never know when you'll be inspired to try something new!
