Certified Tutor

I am a mathematics tutor, here to impart to my clients my understanding of the subject, and maybe even a little bit of my enthusiasm. I've excelled in mathematics since I was young. In high school I learned math from the University of Iowa. Now I'm working towards a Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines.
I believe that all mathematics makes sense, and if a student thinks otherwise, it's not their fault, but that of a flawed education system. I have worked with students of a variety of ages, from middle school to college. I always make the most of our one-on-one relationship, tailoring my teaching on the fly to line up with the next step in my client's progression, and looking out for areas of confusion. To overcome such confusion, I structure my discussions to lead my client to the same ideas on their own. Being a visual learner myself, I make use of drawings and diagrams to show things more tangibly than words can. I introduce my clients to mathematical "tools", work through problems with them and apply those tools, and point out signs that that particular tool might be useful in a new problem. Memorization should be minimal, only made use of for speed tricks and arbitrary conventions, and should only come after a deeper understanding is achieved. In the end, my client should be proficient enough to no longer need my help.
