Most of my experience in tutoring involve leading study groups in both undergraduate and graduate school (in addition to high school). I also took some elective courses with the specific purpose of tutoring. My most fulfilling tutoring experiences involve my son (now 14), and two nieces.
As for my education, I graduated from high school in 1998 and began with earning an engineering degree in computer science. I then chose to start a family and had my son when I was 24. Once he was a little older (around 4), I went back to school at University of Phoenix and earned my bachelors in business management. From there, I immediately went to graduate school and earned my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Marylhurst University in Oregon in 2011. My MBA had a concentration in finance, because my passion in education has always been in mathematics.
As I mentioned, I have always had a passion for math, so I am certified to teach math for Algebra, statistics, and other platforms. I also enjoy science, so I teach Biology and Earth Science. That being said, variations of math and science are my favorite subjects to teach. Lastly, as I have spent a lot of my education and career in finance and computers, so I also teach computer literacy, Microsoft Office (word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook, and so on), business, accounting, and several other subjects.
Regarding my career, I have spent the last 20 years in manufacturing. I was a machinist for 10 years, a production foreman for 2 years, and then moved on to engineering for another 4 years. At some point, I realized I preferred the operations piece of manufacturing and was promoted to the role of area manager of a titanium foundry, which is where I am today.
Regarding my teaching philosophy, my favorite part about teaching/tutoring is seeing that "ahh-ha" moment. It's that look the student gets when the material clicks. At this point, it's no longer about trying to memorize or get by. The material becomes exciting and the student now has the ability to problem solve and be successful. This is what I look and strive for as a teacher/tutor, because once the student is engaged and excited about the subject matter, the normal boundaries of learning are suddenly removed.

My interests and hobbies revolve almost entirely on the outdoors, particularly on any ocean beach I can find. Much of this time I spend exploring with my fiancé and children, but often just with my wife. Our latest interests involved hiking on trails by various waterfalls around Oregon. When the season is right, we also enjoy picking fresh fruit from all the farms in the local areas. My favorites are peaches, which is evident by my profile picture. It was a beautiful sunny day and my wife and I had just picked three buckets of peaches. I also love to go fishing, particularly from the river side, and mostly for bass and trout….and to be honest, the kid in me still loves video games. I’m only 38 after all. I hope to learn the hobbies and interests of students as well so we can get to know each other and have a successful learning experience.
